Core Infrastructure Technical Lead.
ActiveEdge Technologies is a leading IT solutions provider delivering infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, and system integrations across Africa. The Infrastructure Technical Lead will support the physical and hybrid infrastructure foundation. This role includes presales support tied to infrastructure solutions.
Role Purpose
To lead design, deployment, maintenance, and optimization of ActiveEdge’s core infrastructure including servers, storage, virtualization, backup & disaster recovery, business continuity, and to provide technical support during presales engagements for infrastructure solutions. The role ensures core infrastructure is robust, reliable, high-performance, and that presales offerings are viable, properly scoped, and technically sound.
Key Responsibilities
A. Core Infrastructure Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Architecture & Design
- Lead the design/architecture of enterprise core infrastructure (on-premises / hybrid), selecting appropriate hardware, virtualization platforms, storage, backup, and failover systems.
- Define infrastructure standards for performance, redundancy, and physical deployment.
- Deployment, Maintenance & Optimization
- Oversee installation, configuration, and upkeep of servers, SAN/NAS storage, virtualization clusters, hyperconverged systems.
- Monitor performance, optimize resource usage, identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Backup, DR, Business Continuity
- Design and manage backup strategies, DR plans, and business continuity protocols.
- Conduct regular DR tests and validate RTO/RPO targets.
- Vendor & OEM Relationships
- Evaluate infrastructure hardware vendors, lifecycle management, warranties, support SLAs.
B. Infrastructure Presales Function
- Technical Presales Support
- Collaborate with Sales, Presales, and Solution Architects to scope infrastructure proposals: sizing, cost estimates, integration points, dependencies.
- Create infrastructure design diagrams, proof-of-concepts (POCs), technical documentation, and cost-benefit analyses for clients.
- Help respond to RFP/RFI/Bid documents with infrastructure components, provide clarifications on technical queries.
- Feasibility & Risk Assessment
- Assess technical feasibility, performance risks, integration challenges for proposed infrastructure solutions.
- Identify and communicate potential constraints (hardware, network, compatibility, scalability) to Sales and Solution Architecture teams.
C. Collaboration & Boundaries with Cloud / Security Leads
- Coordination
- Work with Cloud Engineering Lead to determine when infrastructure proposals require hybrid cloud components, ensuring seamless integration.
- Work with Network Security & Value Assurance Lead to ensure infrastructure specifications meet required security standards, but not responsible for full network security policy or endpoint security.
D. Team Leadership & Documentation
- Team Management & Training
- Lead and mentor infrastructure engineers/technicians. Define and assign responsibilities, ensure ownership, and maintain clarity in roles.
- Process & Documentation
- Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation: design architectures, hardware inventories, configuration baselines, process flow, DR/BC plans.
- Standardize workflows for presales input, infrastructure deployment, and maintenance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 8+ years in infrastructure engineering / operations, with minimum 2+ years in a technical lead or senior role.
- Hands-on experience with servers, storage (SAN/NAS), virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.), hyperconverged infrastructure, hybrid environments.
- Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery planning, business continuity.
- Experience in presales: ability to interpret business requirements, size infrastructure, design and document solutions, present technical proposals.
- Vendors / OEM certifications a plus (e.g., VMware, hardware OEM, Microsoft, etc.).
- Very good communication skills to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key Competencies
- Technical design & problem solving
- Presales/business acumen and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Ownership & accountability
- Cross-functional collaboration
- Time management & prioritization
